Wanna hear something funny? Hollywood is banking that you do, with no fewer than a dozen comedies on tap between now and the start of the holiday movie season in late November.

They represent various drama, from horror-comedies (“Little Evil”) to black comedies (“Suburbicon”) to broad, R-rated comedies (“Daddy’s Home 2”). The one thing they have in common, though, is that they want to make you laugh.

After helming the well-received “In a World,” actress Lake Bell tries her hand at directing once more. The result: a dramatic comedy about three couples, each in a different stage of their relationships, who are recruited as the subjects of a documentarian’s movie exploring the idea that marriage is an antiquated institution. Cast : Lake Bell, Ed Helms, Mary Steenburgen, Paul Reiser, Amber Heard. Director : Bell. Distributor : Film Arcade. Release date : Sept. 1.
