The deserts encompass all of Imperial County , the southern and eastern portion of Inyo County , the eastern portions of Mono County , Los Angeles County , Kern County , San Diego County , and Riverside County , and most of northern and eastern San Bernardino County . The major urban populations of western San Diego County, Orange County , the Inland Empire , and Greater Los Angeles are over the high mountains toward the Pacific Ocean .

The topographical boundaries include the Tehachapi Mountains to the northwest, together with the San Gabriel and San Bernardino mountain ranges to the south. The mountain boundaries are quite distinct since they are outlined by the two largest faults in California – the San Andreas Fault and the Garlock Fault . It seems some people from the interior of California seriously want to disassociate from the rest of the state. They want to break off from the coastal counties, from Sonoma and Napa all the way down to Orange County, and let them be Old California – the rest of the state, the rural and agricultural region, would become New California.

Before you laugh and dismiss it as yet another crazy California plan, you might take a look at the work they’ve done so far. According to their website, http://www.newcaliforniastate.com , as of mid-January, 2018, the group has established committees in 21 counties, and have publicly declared their Independence from California. They’ve started a long list of grievances and say that after years of over taxation, regulation, and mono party politics the State of California and many of it’s 58 Counties have become ungovernable.
