The artwork of Archer and Armstrong vol 2: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior by Emanuela Lupacchino is fantastic. It has a very 90’s Saturday morning cartoon feel to it. At least in my opinion. And I’m not saying that in a negative way. I love that style. It’s reminiscent of Spider-Man and X-Men from FOX in the 1990’s. Good times. And this book brought me right back there with it’s artistic style. All of a sudden I was 14 years old again. The inks by Guillermo Ortega work perfectly with Matt Milla’s bold coloring. It created a nostalgic and fun atmosphere to the book.

As I said in my previous review on Archer and Armstrong, Fred Van Lente was born to write this title. He has such a great grasp of the characters. It’s a great dynamic. The younger Obadiah Archer is the mature and responsible one and it’s the guy who has been around for millennia that is immature and wanton a drunkard-party-animal. But the two fit and it’s because Fred Van Lente makes them fit. Not that it’s forced by any means, but that it’s like two pieces of a puzzle that you didn’t know would fit until you put them together. I love Fred Van Lente. His dialogue is great and he is a good orchestrator of chaos – and all as organic as can be.

Archer and Armstrong are a force to be reckoned with, but there is no man in existence more efficient and deadly in battle than the Eternal Warrior. After thousands of years and countless fights on a countless battlefields he has mastered every form of combat, weaponry and military tactics and strategy. He has defeated armies by himself and now he has set his sights on Archer, Armstrong’s new best-friend. The problem is that they are already fighting The Sect. But the Geomancer has fallen and Obadiah Archer looks to be the culprit. Can Archer and Armstrong survive the Wrath of the Eternal Warrior?

Archer & Armstrong (Volume 1) is an ongoing series published by Valiant Comics beginning in 1992 . The original creative team included writers Jim Shooter and Bob Layton with artist Barry Windsor-Smith . The series concluded in 1994 after 27 issues.
